Leap of Faith

Leap of Faith – By Minister Yolanda Edwards

We all know that faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

Some time ago, my Pastor preached a sermon titled “Take the Step”. Generally, the message was about stepping out on faith to do whatever it is God has designed for you to do. That can be various things for different people. For some, He wants you to start your own business, some to write a book, some to start a bible study, some to start a ministry, others to join the licensed ministry. Whatever it is God has designed just for you. I began to wonder why is it that people don’t take that leap of faith, what keeps people from taking the step. Some reasons they don’t include lack of tools and human resources and lack of funding. Some people have low self-esteem and lack confidence in themselves to do what they know God told them to do, while others are discouraged by the nay-sayers. Some are afraid because they can’t see what things would look like down the road, they fear they will fail, and some feel that they just don’t know where and/or how to begin.

After pondering the reasons why people don’t take a leap of faith, God brought Proverbs 3:5-6 to mind; Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge Him and He will direct your path. It all comes down to these two scriptures. People don’t take a leap of faith because they don’t trust that God has given or will provide everything they need to succeed at that thing He is calling them to do.  People are not stopping to consult God on how to proceed and the steps to take. I would venture to say that in most cases, people are operating in their own understanding based on what they see in the natural eye, not based on God’s divine will, power, and authority to make provisions for you to succeed.

Action: Meditate on Proverbs 3:5-6 until it permeates your spirit. Begin to consult God in ALL things and stop, wait, and listen for His direction, then take a leap of faith to begin the process of doing whatever it is that God has called you to do. He has already provided everything you need to get started and if you continue to consult with Him along the way, He will guide you through each step and/or process.
