New Year, New Beginnings

by Yolanda K. Edwards

2 Corinthians 5:17 –  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

As Christians, the moment we accept the Lord as our Savior and head over our lives, all old things are forgotten and all things become new. We become new creatures in Him.

Something to think about: As you prepare to enter a new year, leave all the stress, drama, pain, hurt, foolishness, et cetera in 2016. Begin 2017 with a clean slate, stress and drama free. It is possible if you yield to God, because we know that all things are possible through Christ Jesus.

Prayer Starter: Lord, thank you for allowing me to make it through another year. I ask that you let this be a new beginning for me. Show me how to put the old things away and the past remain in the past. I speak abundant life, peace, good health (complete this with whatever you want God to do for you in the new year), over my life in 2017…

Christmas Blessing

By Yolanda K. Edwards

Isaiah 9:6 – For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

We were blessed with the gift of Jesus Christ which sparks the reason for Christmas celebrations all around the world. As you go out shopping, attending holiday parties, and spending time with family and friends, remember the real reason for the season, the birth of Jesus Christ.

Something to think about: this year, think about being a blessing to someone as others have been a blessing to you. Remember, it doesn’t have to always be a monetary blessing.

Prayer Starter: Lord, thank you for blessing us with the most precious gift of all, your one and only son, Jesus Christ. As we go through the season of giving, first I thank you for all of the blessings that you have bestowed upon me, then I ask that you place someone in my path that I can be a blessing to. Speak to me about how to bless that person and help me to keep the real reason for the season in front of me…

Watch What You Say

By Pastor Brenda Gray

Proverbs 31:26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

We must remember that kind words can be short and easy to speak, but harsh words are often spoken and always remembered. Before you speak, ask yourself, “Is what I am about to say?”

True, Necessary, Kind

If your reply is not all three of the above, then you should rethink what you are about to say. We must remember people may forget what we said, they may even forget what we did, but they will never forget how we made them feel.

Prayer Starter: Father in the name of Jesus, you said the tongue no man can tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessings and cursing, this ought not to be so. God I am asking that you help me so that my mouth can be a blessing and not a curse…

Enslaved, Unconsciously Content

By Yolanda K. Edwards

Exodus 1:11-14  So they put slave masters over them to oppress them with forced labor, and they built Pithom and Rameses as store cities for Pharaoh.  But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and spread; so the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites 13 and worked them ruthlessly.  They made their lives bitter with harsh labor in brick and mortar and with all kinds of work in the fields; in all their harsh labor the Egyptians worked them ruthlessly.

There are many things in the world that enslave us today and we don’t even realize it. Greed, material items, such as cars, clothes, electronic gadgets, apps, jewelry, to name a few. We get so caught in the moment, in our emotions, in trying to keep up with the Jones, that before we know it, we are enslaved and putting everything else before God. Matthew 6:19-21: tells us not to lay up treasures on earth, but the layup treasures in heaven.

Something to think about: What is enslaving you? Where are you laying up your treasures, here on earth or up in heaven?  It’s time to conduct a self-assessment to discover the answer to these questions.  If you find that it’s the latter, you need to make some changes.

Prayer Starter: Thank you for all that you’ve done for me and all that you have given me both tangible and non-tangible. Continue to work with me to show me more of you. I want to be in a place where I place you above everybody and everything…
