Your Needs

By Yolanda K. Edwards

Matthew 9:8-11 “This, then, is how you should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread.

John 14:13 – And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

God already knows what we need before we ask.  Sometimes, He will provide it before we ask because He already knows.  Other times, He waits for you to ask before He provides. Unfortunately, some people never pray or speak to God unless the need something from him.

The funny thing is He knows what we need sometimes, even when we do not.  When it comes to our own personal circumstances, believe it or not, sometimes what we think we need is entirely different from what we actually need.  This is why we pray for what we want or think we need, but we also should add to every prayer: “not my will, but thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven”.

Remember that He will do it not for you, but so that the Father (that’s God) will be glorified through the son (that is Jesus).  You just happen to reap the benefits.  It’s important for you to remember that we are here to glorify God in all things, thus we should get to a point where all we want is for God to be gloried in everything that we do.

Prayer starter:  Lord, forgive me for making it all about me.  As I continue in this journey, Holy Spirit, remind me that everything I do should be to God’s glory, not mine.  Allow me to be sure to give Him the credit for all the success in my life…

The Power to Overcome

By Pastor Brenda Gray

1John 5:4 For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.

We have the Power to overcome every sickness and disease, every trial and setback, every form of lack, and anything else that comes against us! That is why the Holy Spirit reminds us through the Apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity; but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.”

Prayer Starter: Lord, so many Christians, God’s power is available to them. But they simply do not know how to access it. Faith is the bucket of power lowered by the rope of prayer into the well of God’s abundance. We have every encouragement to use a big bucket, but what we bring up depends upon what we let down. We are limited by our faith. Let Faith overcome Fear! In Jesus name, Amen!

When Your Friend is Your Enemy

By Pastor Brenda Gray

Matthew 26:50  Friend, do what you came for.

There’s no pain like betrayal. And none of us is exempt. Psalms 41:9 says Even my close friend, someone I trusted, who shared my bread has turned against me.

The truth is, God allows certain people into our lives to facilitate His purposes. Even ones like Judas whom Jesus called friend, and said: “Do what you came for”. Before Jesus was betrayed, He told the disciples, “I know whom I have chosen…that the scripture may be fulfilled, “he who eats bread with Me has lifted up his heel against Me” (John 13:18). He could have fulfilled His destiny without John the beloved disciple, or impetuous Peter who was always ready to defend him, but it was Judas’s kiss of betrayal that ushered Jesus into His destiny.

You can’t always avoid getting hurt, but God can give you the grace to re-evaluate the situation and realize that the person you thought was your enemy may have been a friend in disguise. God will never permit His plans for us to be sabotaged by somebody elses action. When you are under His shield of protection, He’ll allow your Judas to go so far and no further.

As a child of God His purposes govern how much damage others can do to you. Once you understand that, it lessens the fear that stems from getting involved again when you have been burned. Psalms 119:71 says, “It was good for me to be afflicted, so that I might learn your decrees.

God loves to turn our negatives into positives. And while none of us enjoys suffering, it takes us to levels of understanding that, left to our own devices, we’d never reach.

Prayer Starter: Father in the name of Jesus help me to understand the Judas in my life. Even though there is chaos all around me please keep me on the path that you have designed for me…

Grace, Mercy and Forgiveness

By Yolanda K. Edwards

Psalm 51:1-2 – “Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.”

God loved us so much that He sacrificed His only son as a debt for our past, present, and future sins. He gives us grace and mercy that affords us opportunities that we don’t deserve and allows us to escape punishment that we do deserve. God is faithful and just to forgive all of our sins, but we have to be mindful to ask.  Just as God has bestowed grace and mercy upon us and has forgiven us, we must do the same for others.  If you’ve been participating in activities or living a life that you know God is not pleased with, take a moment to ask Him to forgive you. If you are harboring unforgiveness in your heart, ask God to help you get to a point of forgiveness.

Prayer starter- Lord, forgive me for the sins that I’ve committed against you and others. For those sins that I commit that I’m not aware of, bring them to my attention.  Help me get to a point of forgiveness for anyone that I have not forgiven…
