Facing Your Giants

By Yolanda K. Edwards

I Samuel 17: 40-50

In the text, we see that David was the youngest of all of his brothers and was only in the city at that time because his father (Jesse) sent him to check on his brothers.  While there, he noticed all of the men just standing around while the Philistine Goliath was taunting them.

David decided that he was going to fight the giant, but no one thought it possible for this young shepherd boy to defeat a giant, however, King Saul gave his Blessing and sent David into battle against the giant.

David did not go into battle with the amour that the King tried to give him, instead, He took 5 stones, a sling, and Jesus Christ.  He defeated the giant.

My question to you today is, how many times do you go into battle unprepared and without your back-up?  We all face giants in our lives…whether it be poor health, financial woes, loss of a job or stressful times at work, issues in your marriage, caring for sick love ones…whatever your giants maybe.  Remember to put on the full armor of God to stand against the schemes and plans of the enemy, Ephesians 6:10-18 and take your back-up, the almighty Jesus Christ! As the book of I Samuel 17:47 points out, the battle is not yours, it’s the Lords.

Prayer Starter – Father, it’s in the name of the almighty Jesus that I come…I’ve been in battle, but have failed to go prepared.  So I’m taking a moment right now asking for your forgiveness for not consulting you concerning ____________ and allowing you to step in and have your way.  I put on the full armor of God right now to stand against the tricks, schemes, and plans of the enemy, for I know my struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, authorities, powers, and spiritual forces of the evil in the heavenly realms.  I stand firm with the belt of truth buckled around my waist, with the breast plate of righteousness in place, and my feet shod with the preparation of peace.  I take the shield of faith in my left hand to extinguish the flaming darts of the enemy.  I put on the helmet of salvation and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, in my right hand.  I will continue to consult you concerning the giants in my life, praying in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.  With this in mind, I also pray for others who are in their own battles…

Your Words

By Pastor Brenda Gray

Proverbs 31:26  She opens her mouth with wisdom, and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

We must remember that kind words can be short and easy to speak, but harsh words are often spoken and always remembered. Before you speak, ask yourself, “Is what I am about to say?”

  • True
  • Necessary
  • Kind

If your reply is not all three of the above, then you should rethink what you are about to say. We must remember people may forget what we said, they may even forget what we did, but they will never forget how we made them feel.

Prayer Starter: Father in the name of Jesus, you said the tongue no man can tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessings and cursing, this ought not to be so. God I am asking that you help me so that my mouth can be a blessing and not a curse…

Whose Soul is Waiting on You?

By Yolanda K. Edwards

Acts 9:11-15: 11 The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. 12 In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.” 13 “Lord,” Ananias answered, “I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your holy people in Jerusalem. 14 And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.” 15 But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel.

It does not matter where you start, what matters is how you end.

Saul despised Jesus Christ and all of His followers, however God still saw fit to use Saul as a vessel to spread the Gospel.  Though Saul had committed many sins against the Lord, he became one of the most devout Christians during that time, spreading the word of God at all costs. He was not afraid of being persecuted because: 1) he knew how important it was to share the word of God with others as their eternal lives depended on it and 2) he trusted God completely that no matter what happened, it was in God’s will for him.

Are you ashamed of sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ? Are you worried about what people will say or think about you if you consistently share the Good news of Jesus Christ in order to save lives?  God has a purpose and a plan for everyone.  We all play a part in saving lives and advancing His kingdom.  Do you realize that someone’s soul is depending on you to do your part! Ouch, I know it may not always be easy, but anything you will ever do for God, any trial you ever face on His behalf will surely be worth it.

Prayer starter: Father, it’s in the name of Jesus that I pray, lifting you up, glorifying you, giving you all the honor that you are due.  Lord create in me a clean heart and renew my spirit in you.  Use me as a vessel to save souls and positively change the lives of people that are waiting for me to do my part…

He is Faithful and Just to Forgive Us

By Pastor Brenda Gray

1 John 1:9   If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

When you think about the way you used to be and how in spite of everything you have done and may be still doing, God takes you back!  He is the God of not just a second or third chance, but He keeps calling your name. If you fall, do not stay down; get back up because He is a God of another chance.

Prayer Starter: Father in the name of Jesus I thank you for not giving up on me. You keep calling my name and I want to be able to move in the realm that you are calling me to be. Help me to make Godly choices and to move when the Holy Spirit speaks to me. Help me…
