Look Beyond Man to See God by Yolanda K. Edwards
I Samuel 23:1-3 – When David was told, “Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah and are looting the threshing floors,” 2 he inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go and attack these Philistines?” The Lord answered him, “Go, attack the Philistines and save Keilah.” 3 But David’s men said to him, “Here in Judah we are afraid. How much more, then, if we go to Keilah against the Philistine forces!” (read the entire chapter at your leisure)
In I Samuel 23, King Saul was still searching for David so he could kill him. At one point in the story, David was led by the Lord to go and save the town of Kailah from the Philistines. However, when he informed his men that they were going, they told him that they were afraid; even though they knew the Lord was with David and had already experienced several victories in battle. I believe they got to a point where they could not see God, pass the man. They were afraid because David was just a man and he definitely couldn’t defeat the Philistines on his own human merit and strength. His men forgot that as humans and children of God, when we are weak, we are made strong through Him. (But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 2 Corinthians 12:9)
Question: How many times has your focus been on what man can do to you and for you, not what God can do. It is important to remember that if we abide in Him and His Word abides in us, we can have whatever we ask in His name (John 15:7) as long as it’s in His will for us. You do realize that He can do exceeding abundantly above all that we can ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). We must also remember that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13).
Always consult God and depend solely on Him, for it is He who uses man to Bless others. Without God, man can do nothing.
Prayer starter…Here I am Lord, leaning and depending on you to…I know through you, I can do all things because you strengthen me. I know that your power is made strong in my weakness and with that comes the strength to move forward in…
